Whether you like to spot and photograph the abundance of wildlife that can be found around the Town of Faro and the surrounding area or whether you like to enjoy the excitement of activities such as hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hockey, skating, curling, sledding, etc... Faro is a great place to experience what the Yukon is all about.

Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is a popular winter activity for a lot of Yukoners. The frozen lakes are ideal destinations for a day of fishing in a fairytale winter setting. You can either choose from roadside accessible lakes such as Little Salmon Lake, Fisheye Lake and Frances Lake(snowfall may prevent driving up to the lakes by vehicle) or you may want to use a snowmobile to reach secluded lakes in the back country. At all times be sure that the ice is thick enough to carry your weight and your snowmobile's weight safely.

Cross Country Skiing
The excellent network of trails around the Town of Faro makes our town a wonderful place to be during the wintertime as well. Among other outdoor winter activities, cross country skiing is an increasing popular sport.
In Spring 2006 Town of Faro completed, with help from YG's CDF-fund, the construction and upgrading of the Ski Chalet and warming cabin. These two valuable additions to our tourism infrastructure are located on Faro's cross country ski trails in the airport area.
We hope that a volunteer cross-country ski club will soon come forward to take on the maintenance so trails, chalet and cabin will be utilized and enjoyed.
Snowmobiling

Hundreds of kilometers of trails...
Enjoy the great powder snow that covers our land in wintertime. The many trails around town make Faro a great snowmobiling destination. Hundreds of kilometers of pathways through the wilderness, and majestic mountain views over valleys, lakes and rivers make for a perfect day of fun.
Temperatures can be extreme and may vary strongly depending on time of year and altitude. Wear several layers of warm clothing and proper foot and head gear. Remember, it's better to have to take some clothing off than to not have enough to put on. When going on longer trips, be sure to bring extra supplies such as water, nutritious food and emergency gear.
It is recommended not to travel alone on long trips. In case of an accident or technical failure a travel companion will be helpful and could prevent fatal situations. According to Law your snowmobile should have proper insurance and licensing.
The people of Faro will gladly share their trails with you. Please be respectful to fellow trail users such as hikers and cross country skiers and stay on the trails.
