The Faro region is rich in opportunities for a wide range of outdoor activities. Whether you like to spot and photograph the abundance of wildlife that can be found around the Town of Faro and the surrounding area or whether you like to enjoy the excitement of activities such as hiking, biking or canoeing, Faro is a great place to experience what the Yukon is all about.
Faro accommodates rental facilities for most outdoor sport equipment. For more information about renting gear please browse our website or call the Campbell Region Interpretive Centre or Town Office.
All Terrain Vehicles
Go anywhere!
Driving an all terrain vehicle through the wilderness, for many, is an experience in itself. An all terrain vehicle is a good way to explore the back country around Faro. Please use these vehicles responsibly by staying on the trails. Since there is a surplus to choose from, there is no need to leave the trails.
Motorized vehicles should be licensed and insured.

- Let someone know where you plan to go and when you are expected to be back

Boating
Bring your boat
The Campbell Region is blessed with several large lakes accessible to motorized boaters. Some lakes have convenient boat ramps that make it easy to un- and reload your watercraft.
Operators of watercrafts in Canada are required by Law to wear approved life jackets.

Canoeing
Canoeing is a great way to enjoy our rivers and lakes. A very worthwhile daytrip is canoeing down the Pelly River from Ross River to Faro. This trip will take about ten hours, but you can take it easy and camp out in the wild on the shores of the Pelly or on one of its islands.

- Bring enough food and drinks
- Let someone know where you plan to go and when you are expected to be back

John Connolly Municipal Campground and RV Park
Within the Town of Faro, the John Connolly Municipal Campground offers a unique tourist facility. The Municipal Campground is situated near the centre of the town and provides washrooms, showers and laundry facilities.
The camp sites have full hook-ups, fire pits and free fire wood. An RV dump station is also available.

Yukon Government Campgrounds
The Campbell Region offers excellent opportunities for people who love camping. Along the Campbell Highway and South Canol Road you will find several Yukon Government Campgrounds at scenic locations near lakes, canyons and rivers. The spacious individual campsites are well-suited for even larger motor homes and fifth wheels. The campsites offer picnic tables, campfire pits, firewood and at least one picnic shelter. The sites also come equipped with outhouses and hand-pumped cold water.
Campground permits can be purchased in advance at Visitor Reception Centres, Highway Lodges, Gas Stations, Retail Stores, in Liquor Stores in communities outside Whitehorse and at all Environment Yukon Offices. You can also pay the overnight fee at registration. Yukon residents have the option to purchase a Annual Campground Permit. All campgrounds are Self-Registration. Please register upon arrival.

At the height of summer, the sun does not set. This natural phenomenon makes late night fishing one of those great advantages of our region. You will effortlessly find a private fishing spot at one of our rivers or lakes. Fishing here is something else!
Prevent being fined by purchasing a fishing license at the Conservation Office or Territorial Agent.
A wide range of fishing gear and related equipment is available at the Hardware Store in Faro.

Hiking
Excellent starting point for your expeditions
The Town of Faro is an excellent starting point for your expeditions. Visiting Faro, you will have a choice of hiking trails ranging from short distance to multi-day hikes on beautiful pathways trough the wilderness. Trail brochures are available at the Interpretive Centre.
The Campbell Region boasts a large network of trails leading through some of the most spectacular scenes in North America. Both seasoned hikers and recreational hikers will enjoy the variety of trails they will find here. And we promise that you won’t find crowds on your way.
Driving along the Campbell Highway you will find trails leading into the back country. These trails are not marked. We recommend caution when hiking these trails for people not familiar with back country hiking. The true adventurer, used to conquering less-travelled paths, may want to come prepared with a GPS device. Remember that Yukon Territory, for the most part, is sheer nature and is undeveloped. Services outside the communities are rare and mostly non-existent. Safety can not be taken for granted!
Dena Cho Trail
The Dena Cho Trail is a 67.6 km multi-use recreation trail connection Faro and Ross River. The route of the trail is just gorgeous. The views are magnificent and there is a good variety of walking high above the river, through the forest and through more open space.

Hunting
Faro is located in Central South Eastern Yukon, legendary for its hunting opportunities. Access is by both road and air. The hundreds of kilometers of trails and line cuts make easy access to the surrounding mountains and lakes.
The sparsely human populated land mass and the health of wildlife population makes Faro one of the world's finest areas for hunting. Europeans and Americans have considered the Yukon to be amongst the best hunting areas around.
With hunting access virtually at your doorstep, whether by foot, quad or snowmobile, you can hunt for large game such as moose, caribou, sheep, grizzly and black bears, or medium sized game such as wolves and wolverines.
Before heading out to hunt in the Faro area, be sure to check out hunting regulations and fire arms regulations.
